BELIEVERS AND DISCIPLES 4
For any man or woman to become a believer or a disciple, it rest upon such a person fulfilling the required conditions for both. Being an ardent church goer does not make you a believer because that is not a condition to fulfill for you to become a believer. Neither does being a believer for ten years qualify you as a disciple because that is not the only condition that qualifies you as one. It is important we thresh out the conditions for one to be a believer as this forms the basis for a disciple. If we miss being a correct believer, we cannot but miss being a correct disciple.
We see the conditions to be a believer in Romans 10:9
“...because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved…”
Two conditions are clear from the above scripture.
- Confession with your mouth
- Believing in your heart.
However, for one to be able to confess Jesus as Lord, there is yet a primary condition one must fulfill. No man has this ability to confess Jesus as Lord except God helps such a man. John 6:44 says ‘No one can come to me (Jesus) unless the Father who sent me draws him....
To be able to confess Jesus, God must gives such a man the gift of the Holy Spirit which comes to all who repent and ask for forgiveness after hearing the gospel.
Peter said to them, “Repent, and each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
(Acts 2:38 NET)
The proof that you have received the gift of the Holy Spirit is in your ability to confess Jesus as Christ and Lord!

1 John 4:2 says
“Here’s how you test for the genuine Spirit of God. Everyone who confesses openly his faith in Jesus Christ—the Son of God, who came as an actual flesh-and-blood person—comes from God and belongs to God. (MSG)Are you born again? Have you turned from your sins to seek God's forgiveness or are you yet blinded to the truth that “all have sinned” and therefore all are in need of repentance. Perhaps you were born into a Christian home and have been attending church regularly ever since you were born and you have never felt any obvious sinful habits in your life besides the little lies that sometimes slips through your tongue or that angry outburst you seem to loose so often. Are you yet ignorant of the pride and conceitedness of your life. No man is free, for all have sinned and are in need of repentance.
The penalty for sin has not change. We will all, individually bear the responsibility for our actions
Behold, all souls are Mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is Mine; the soul that sins, it shall die.
Ezekiel 18:4 AMPC
For the wages which sin pays is death, but the [bountiful] free gift of God is eternal life through (in union with) Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23 AMPC)
