FREED FROM SIN

“You were bought at a price;...”
(I Corinthians 7:23a NKJV)
The idea of buying or selling individuals has been a most troublesome human phenomenon that has rather worsen till date despite all effort to stamp out the practice. Slavery has always been a fundamental part of human existence.
The first record of such practices in the bible was that of  Joseph who was sold by his brothers  to slave trader. He was then bought in Egypt by Potiphar. The practice would definitely have been long existing before Joseph fell a victim.
Before men began to enslave one another, the entire humanity was already enslaved to a master. God gave a clear warning to Cain of an unseen yet real entity called Sin trying to gain control over his life.
“You know that if you do what is right, I will accept you. But if you don’t, sin is ready to attack you. That sin will want to control you, but you must control it.” (Genesis 4:7 ERV)
Sin had ever since gained controlled over mankind. Men became slaves of Sin.
“And we know that our old being has been put to death with Christ on his cross, in order that the power of the sinful self might be destroyed, so that we should no longer be the slaves of sin.”
But don’t let sin control your life here on earth... Sin will not be your master,...”
(Romans 6:6,12a,14a GNB).
These and several other passages clearly points to the.lordship of Sin over man.
Joseph became a slave to the Ishmaelites for 20 pieces of silver. His new masters could not have cared much more than just to keep him alive for them to regain their investment on him with profit. He could not have had a change of raiment other than that with which he was sold if not less. When Potiphar bought him,,he remained a slave but now with a new master who could provide him a garment and put him in charge of his business/household.
God declares as if to remind us, “you were bought at a price… “ The transaction had already been completed. Hallelujah! Payment has been made in full. You are no longer under your former master-Sin. You have been bought by God! Even though He is Almighty, He did not  forcefully take us back from our former master’s hand. He paid in full for the entire human race. God paid for us with His only Son. Now we belong to another yet with a much more grandiose plan for us than just remaining slaves. His intent is to make us his bona fide children.
Though mankind have been set free from Sin, if a slave remains in the dark as to him being freed, he will remain subservient to his former owner. I am bringing you this good news today; Sin is no longer your master. God has paid for your freedom from the tyranny of Sin. Jesus Christ shed his blood to wipe off the records of your exploits (sins) under Sin. He died on the Cross to destroy that power that had held you bound and subservient to Sin. (Rom. 6:7). He resurrected as a guarantee of a new life for us. All these can only become real to you if you will only believe Jesus Christ and in the good news of the works he had done for you. What will be your response? Come to him, so he can put his stamp of ownership on you.
Jesus said, “The truth is, everyone who sins is a slave—a slave to sin...So if the Son makes you free, you are really free. (John 8:34‭, ‬36 ERV)
