THE LAST CHURCH 2

The second issue the Lord addressed in this letter is the state of self-sufficiency in which the last church has found itself. The profound and salient error the church has made here is in self-assessment.

"You say...," (Rev.3:17).

Not I, the Lord, but you are the one saying that.  What is the church saying about itself today?

"...I am rich and well off; I have all I need"

I was once taught a figure of speech that says " as poor as a church mouse," but I wonder how applicable this is in this generation. You can't even teach your child that and not get a sharp refutation. This church age has been the wealthiest of them all and is ranked as a multi-billion-dollar business. The CEOs (alias General Overseers) run ministries by their greed, making a profit off people by saying anything that sounds good to exploit them. The extravagant and opulent lifestyle of these men, all in the name of ministry, has brought so much reproach to the Lord. -

"because of what they do, others will speak evil of the Way of truth" (2 Peter 2:1-3)

Hear the Lord's assessment of this church's condition:

"You say I am rich: I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing. But you do not realise that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked."

This is what we get when we do self-assessment rather than Spirit assessment. This is what we get when we examine ourselves under the light of human knowledge and understanding rather than the light of His Word.

"For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light (Psalms 36:9)

Unless we are ready to come under God's own light, whatever conclusion we may have drawn about ourselves will always fall short. We always seem to forget that "as high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are his ways and thoughts above ours.

"But you do not realise..." say the Lord.

Oh! What a contrast in realities.
Brethren, have we been able to apprehend and come to the place of experience about His true assessment. Self-assessment says

"I am rich,"

 But the Spirit assessment says

" You are miserable and poor".

May we find grace to receive and consider his assessment in our hearts to the end that we may truly seek him.
