TWO MASTERS
"No man can serve two masters...." (Matt 6:24) SPIRIT vs FLESH The flesh also referred to in the scripture as SELF, or HUMAN NATURE, or OLD MAN, or SIN (singular) is a master. It is the master that reigns, governs and rules over everyone born of a woman. No man is born free. We were born slaves unto a master called self, and it is still very much the ruler in many lives. Flesh/self reigns unchallenged in the lives of all unbelievers, while his reign in the life of a believer is being challenged by a new master who came at the point of regeneration - the Spirit. "for sin shall no longer be your master..."Rom 6:14 NIV The believer, therefore, needs to make a choice on who to obey "...you are slaves to the one you obey" Rom 6:16 NIV No one can obey human nature and at the same time be obedient to the Spirit. It is impossible because the two masters are ALWAYS contrary to one another. "For the Flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit ...
