GOOD GROUNDS (2)

The parable of the sower in Matthew 13 talks about three other types of grounds on which the seed (the Word of God) can be sown. The wayside ground, the stony ground and the thorny ground. Though all have differing reactions to the seed, the common string is that they are all fruitless (no yield). None is acceptable, though these are the kinds of hearts with many believers today.

We can categorise the wayside listeners as those yet to gain or accept Christ, the Unbelievers.
2 Corinthians 4:4 says as regards these wayside hearers

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

The other Jews who, during the days of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, may have bowed to King Nebuchadnezzar's image are examples of those with a stony heart.

2 Timothy 4:10 says as regards someone with a thorny heart

For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica…

Let us all strive to have the right heart, the new heart promised to us by God. This is the only good ground that can bring forth *fruit.*
