THE MYSTERY OF SIN (PART 1)

TEXT: Romans 6-8, 1 John 3

Every time I come across the scripture passage in 1 John 3 which says,

“Whosoever is born of God does not sin; for His seed remains in Him; and he cannot sin because he is born of God” (vs 9)

I never cease to praise God for this word which makes us victorious over sin. We cannot however appreciate this truth if we do not have that understanding of what sin is and the operations of sin in the life of man

When we examine ourselves in the light of this scripture (1 John 3:9), we see that we have fallen short of this truth and are condemned in our heart or perhaps we are uncertain in our heart as to the this truth in our lives. A question that could come to our mind might be that of us doubting if we are truly born of God since those that are, not only do they not sin but that they CANNOT sin.

In these teaching series, we will be looking at what sin is and how our understanding of the mystery of sin can enable us to live in this truth.

WHAT IS SIN?

Sin is the workings, ways, and acts of Satan. It originated from the heart of Lucifer (now Satan). This workings, ways and acts are persistently and irreversibly contrary to the Omnipotent God. The fact we ought to note is that sin is a matter of the heart.

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north.” Isaiah 14:12-13 (KJV)

The first place in all of creation where iniquity was found was in Satan.

..Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; Ezek 28:2 (KJV)

Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. Ezek 28:14-15 (KJV)

Nothing honours God the most, more that the wilful submission of his creation to Him despite his giving them the choice not to submit if they so choose.

This singular act of Lucifer corrupted all his perfections and ways. His workings, ways and acts became sin unto God. Sin became an ENTITY

HOW DID SIN GAIN ENTERANCE TO GOD’S CREATION ON EARTH?

Sin gain entrant into the world by Satan craftily deceiving man into having that same heart he had “ For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” Gen 3:5 (KJV)

Man fell and sin gained an entrant into this world.

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world,...Romans 5:12 (KJV)

HOW DID SIN GAIN ENTRANCE INTO MAN?

This is a usually overlooked aspect of the mystery of sin in man. We undermine the truth of

the confession Apostle Paul made in Romans 7:17-18. It is only as we appreciate this truth that we can understand our struggle with sin.

Sin gained entrant into man through Cain. God warned “...sin lieth at the door and unto and unto thee shall be his (sin entity) desires...” Cain failed to heed, he killed his brother Abel and sin gained entrant through that door( which is his flesh) Read Hebrew 10:20.

This is a mystery. It was this that warranted the confession of Apostle Paul –

“ Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. Romans 7:17-18 (KJV)

A SEAMLESS OPERATION

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. Ezek 36:26 (ASV) It will be easy enough to comprehend and believe that aspect of God giving us a new spirit, since we are usually oblivious to the existence of our spirit. So when we ask for a new spirit even at conversion, we are told to believe that God has done it. Indeed, He has! But before that promise of a new spirit is; A new heart... will I give you... How will this happen? When does this take place? The easy way out of these questions is to assume that the heart referred to here may have to be the ‘spiritual heart.’ “It just got to be spiritual...“ one would say. Well, think again... All Have Gone Astray

Isaiah 53:6 - All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way;... God's declaration is clear. He said 'ALL' (meaning everybody) have gone in the wrong direction. He knows we have all gone in the wrong direction, but the biggest issue is whether we have realised that we are heading in the wrong direction. A thousand people will have a thousand ways they are heading because EVERYONE has turned to their own way, which means 1000 wrong ways. We may have hundreds of logical reasons to prove that the way we are heading is right, but have you ever wondered what brought God to this conclusion?  Consider Proverbs 14::12: "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."
