MYSTERY OF SIN (PART 3)

How Did God Remedy This Great Defect Of Sin In Man One major reason why Christ had to come in the likeness of sinful flesh was for sin. He dealt with sin by condemning it in the flesh (Romans 8:3). This means that the activities and power of sin was limited to the flesh alone, breaking off the power to call the attention of the mind to follow the dictates of bodily lusts. Jesus Christ did this by introducing a new law called the law of the Spirit of life. This law antagonises the law of lust. The power of lust in the body was broken by this law thereby rendering sin inoperative and with no tools to work it. Sin as we have learnt intensifies the desires in man’s body making it sinful, but the Spirit of life intensifies the desires in man’s spirit for the things of God making it righteous. ‘For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.’ Gal 5:17 (HCSB) Wha...

MYSTERY OF SIN (PART 2)

“Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. Romans 7:17-18 (KJV) The implication of this truth is that the natural God-given desires in man became perverted by sin. Our desires for food, water, sleep, fame, wealth, rest, sex etc in the presence of this sin entity becomes sinful. Dear brethren, God’s declaration about our flesh is unchanging “...God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh ...” (). Our perverted desires became lusts (very strong desires) due to sin dwelling in the flesh. At this point it is important we remind ourselves of the fact that man is a tripartite being i.e. man has a spirit, soul and body but he is essentially a ‘living soul’ (Gen 2:7). What differentiate individuals are their souls. The soul is what makes us unique. A careful look at our text (Romans 7) reveal...

THE MYSTERY OF SIN (PART 1)

TEXT: Romans 6-8, 1 John 3 Every time I come across the scripture passage in 1 John 3 which says, “Whosoever is born of God does not sin; for His seed remains in Him; and he cannot sin because he is born of God” (vs 9) I never cease to praise God for this word which makes us victorious over sin. We cannot however appreciate this truth if we do not have that understanding of what sin is and the operations of sin in the life of man When we examine ourselves in the light of this scripture (1 John 3:9), we see that we have fallen short of this truth and are condemned in our heart or perhaps we are uncertain in our heart as to the this truth in our lives. A question that could come to our mind might be that of us doubting if we are truly born of God since those that are, not only do they not sin but that they CANNOT sin. In these teaching series, we will be looking at what sin is and how our understanding of the mystery of sin can enable us to live in this truth. WHAT IS SIN? ...

CERTAIN MEN

TEXT: Jude.1,  2 Peter 2: 1 - 20. 2Timothy 3 There has never been a time more appropriate than the time we are now to acknowledge the need to  “contend earnestly for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints”, Jude Vs 3 And the fulfilment of such prophecies concerning  “false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies”  It is much more evident now in this life and age of the church. The call of Jude to defend the truth of the Good News is no joke if you are spiritually alive and sensitive to the ‘spirits’ in the church. There is no doubt that false teachers abound in today's churches. A careful look at the texts on this subject would reveal the characteristics of these men, which were given to us to cross-check with our lives as individuals and as ministers of the Word, if we have not actually fallen into the whims and caprices of the spirit of error. 1. They started as genuine Christians. “ But there were false prophets also ...
