Rejoicing in hope
Looking at the ‘why’ one was stolen and ‘what’ we need to have to be stolen, the ultimate virtue and what probably spelt the difference between the two men in the field and women at the mill is HOPE. Simply stated, hope means being expectant. Waiting for what you have not seen, but are very confident that it will come. Nobody hopes for what he sees or has seen.
We were saved to have this hope. If we can see what we are waiting for, that is not really hope. People don’t hope for something they already have. But we are hoping for something we don’t have yet, and we are waiting for it patiently.
Romans 8:24-25 ERV
Jesus Christ had severally admonished – “Watch ye...” as regards his second coming. He simply wants us to be expectant
...And this is what I am telling you now. You must always be ready. You don’t know when the owner of the house will come back. He might come in the afternoon, or at midnight, or in the early morning, or when the sun rises. If you are always ready, he will not find you sleeping, even if he comes back earlier than expected. I tell you this, and I say it to everyone: ‘Be ready!’”
Mark 13:34-37 ERV
In this age where speed is the order of the day (fast food, fast car, quick money...), it is almost impossible to cultivate the vital virtue upon which hope hangs- patience. The need to get things done quickly is fast eroding every human's ability to be patient. If we are not patient, what we hope for becomes a heavy burden in instances of little delay.
Hope that is delayed makes you sad, but a wish that comes true fills you with joy.
Proverbs 13:12 ERV
Proverbs 13:12 ERV
When what you are hoping for comes true, your heart is full of joy.
Many Christians seem not to be looking forward to this blessed hope and have become scoffers in the depths of their hearts.
We as Christians are enjoined to rejoice in this hope. The secret to keeping our hope alive as Christians is by rejoicing in the hope
Rejoicing in hope;...Romans 12:12a KJV
Brother, when last did you rejoice in the hope of walking on the golden streets of heaven?
